So we just added salt to the new pool yesterday and set the chlorine generator to 50%. Cl this morning is about 7. CYA 80, pH 7.8. Is it best to turn off the generator for 24 hrs and recheck or cut down the percentage? Trying to get FC down to around 4ish? Seems as though that's the recommendation. Thanks!

Cut the percentage way down and gradually raise it to dial in the percentage you need to keep your chlorine levels where you want them. Every pool is different so trial and error is the best way to narrow down the correct percentage for your pool.

Crosby,

Not quite...

With a CYA of 80, your target FC 6 to 11 ppm.. So, rather than high you are inside your target..

The basic idea is to try and keep your FC in your target range all the time.. You should never, try to keep your FC between your minimum and your target.. That is just asking for trouble.

Thanks,

Jim R.

I thought 5% of CYA is the optimal level? Which puts FC at 4.
Crosby,

That is the very very minimum...

Did you look at the saltwater section of the chart for a CYA of 80?

If you use the numbers in the chart, swimming is very safe and you will never even know the pool has any chlorine in it..

An FC of 10 with a CYA of 20, would not be a good idea, but an FC of 10 with a CYA of 80 is perfect!!!

Thanks,

Jim R.
