High Alkalinity

Opening the pool this year was a crapshoot. With a new baby distracting us, spring flooding and pump issues we opened late to the swampiest swamp we've ever had. After a week of slamming it was finally clear so we let the FC drift down. Today I tested with the following results:

FC: 6.5
CYA: 60
PH: strangely clear with a tint with 5 drops ( see attached photo), more like 7.5 ish with 10 drops. I also used a calibrated PH pen and got 7.4
TA: 170

I want to turn on the SWG, would the high TA be bad for the cell? We are planning to have people over on Saturday, what is the best plan of action to get the TA level in line? Should I be worried about the diluted PH test?

That is a very odd pH test result. Tell us what number is on the pH reagent bottle.

TA will not effect the SWCG. If you see calcium scale being shed by the SWCG, then you may want to lower TA.

OK -- @nkociub -- you purchased the incorrect reagent for the comparator block you have. Did you purchase a refill kit? If so, was it for your K2006?

Looking at my receipt looks like I got the tf-100 refill. We did get the tf-100 at some point in the past few years so I just reordered, but only found that comparator block in our pool stuff. Guess I need to go hunting in the shed.?
