Am going to fill my above ground pool with well water. I had the water tested at a pool supply store today. Luckily no iron or metals but the alkalinity is over 250 and pH is 7.1. calcium hardness is 276. They said to add a gallon of muriatic acid then raise pH. I know the acid is going to drop pH a lot more. Any suggestions?

Get your own proper test kit.
When pH rises to 8, lower it to 7.4 with acid.
I have a test kit. The 2006. I had water tested for minerals. Just not sure about that much muriatic acid at once because of pH. I've read on here to not worry about alkalinity being high but that's way over recommended level. I have plenty of Borax to raise pH.
