Hi!
Glad I found this forum!!!
We purchased a horse property in Nov with a gunite pool. We just re-tiled and plastered because the condition of the pool was nasty! The previous owner had tried to replace some of the tiles with kitchen tiles etc etc. So I have been reading here (lurking) for awhile now! The pool was SO green when we opened it this spring. There was proof of evolution growing in our pool. It was nasty. took me 2 days to get it somewhat clear of what looked like green ferns.
The previous owners closed the pool and didn't add anything. Now we are refilling the pool (taking sooooooooo long on well water - not a plus of living in the country) and its almost done. The guy who retiled and plastered our pool didn't leave me any instructions and hasnt' contacted me back after I asked him what I do next. So I'm reading up here to work out my next steps!

I look forward to future convo's here :)

My contractor didn't provide instructions either, but what I found even more odd was that when I contacted the mfr, THEY only passed along advice from customers! I wouldn't stress about not hearing from the contractor. As you may have gleaned from comments here, chemical/care skills and building skills don't necessarily go hand in hand.
