Hi
I have been scouring the internet trying to find an answer, but thought maybe someone here could help. I am replacing the skimmers on my inground pool and I can't figure out how to properly set them in place.

Everywhere I read shows a process of entombing the skimmer in concrete with a rebar cage etc around it. However, in these videos the rebar is attached to the concrete wall of the pool. My pool has steel walls with a concrete floor. The pool is surrounded by dirt right up to the steel walls. Because of this, there is no solid wall to attach the rebar to, except for the concrete "border" around the top edge of the wall.

I plan to install a vinyl liner in the pool too.

These are the skimmers I am familiar with, I would run the three cage bars that surround the skimmer into the existing poured concrete by core drilling and then epoxy the bars into place. Also I would not cut the existing two rebar’s that run along the outside edge of the poured concrete shown in your picture.IMG_3985.jpgIMG_3991.jpgIMG_3992.jpg

I think you are confusing methods you read about skimmers on gunite pools with the way skimmers are mounted on steel walled liner pools.

What specific model skimmer are you installing?

What does the installation document for the skimmer you are installing say?

Most skimmers are specifically for gunite or liner pools.

I am installing a Hayward Auto Skim @ajw22 and @AQUA~HOLICS . I don't believe the instructions specify, but I may have to have another look. I also will be installing a vinyl liner. @AQUA~HOLICS where would be a good spot to anchor the rebar? The depth of that concrete pictured is 6-7". To me it doesn't seem like enough to build a cage to, but I am far from an expert.
Thanks for all the help!

I have yet to do what what you are asking about myself having never worked with that type of pool construction, and by not actually being able to see area you’re working with this may be one way to get the cage to bond to existing concrete.
The red lines are the new cage and the yellow is the existing concrete in the picture.IMG_4007.jpeg

The skimmer bolts to the pool wall, no rebar or concrete needed. I (think) I attached the install instructions from Hayward, otherwise, search for Hayward Auto Skim install. That wall looks pretty crusty, not sure if it has existing holes or not. You may need to patch with a piece of steel, then cut hole for skimmer and drill mounting holes.

Sorry for the late response, what type of skimmer are you going to replace it with?
Thank you for your response! Whatever will work with the plumbing. I have the Waterway Turbo and the pool company wants to charge $4000 to replace the same skimmer. Whatever information you can help with I appreciate it.
