Wanted to get your opinion on purchasing a whole house 5 stage water filtration system with our hose fill line running through. There is a deal home depot right now for the same model we have installed at our house and it's amazing (pool is at our vacation rental next door) but am not sure if this type of unit will help since it uses "SCM" salt-free technology which looks to be similar (if not identical) to the older "TAC" softners? The CH has been high since refill due to plaster curing and the wonderful San Diego hard water & no rain problem so I'm looking for any solution that might help and wouldn't cost us a lot.

This is the model I'm looking at http://bit.ly/2ww6Cuc
"Aquasana Rhino Series 5-Stage" with the Salt-free softner scale reduction.

Our test yesterday says we need to replace over 40% of our water to knock CH & high salt down. We've got white patching in the plaster which I had previously assumed was due to the fact the paster job was completed in full sunlight during 100-degree day. Now I'm thinking it's probably related to calcium scaling due to our numbers?

READINGS YESTERDAY:

PH: 8.2
(Been high for the past 2+ months. Have been adding acid per pool math calculator but not seeing much change. Readings only vary slightly between 7.6-8.2. Combined with the other numbers this has obviously been leading to scaling which is what I'm assuming the splotches on the bottom and steps are from?)

TA: 120
(We have been struggling with this alongside the pH since it's probably causing the TA to rise. Always turn the spa onto aerate after acid but no change. Guests have been using the pool a lot so it's getting a lot of movement but the numbers have been staying around 100-120).

FC: 7
CC: 0

CH: 675
(Does the slower evaporation rate during winter temps mean the level will continue to rise?)

CYA: 80

Salt: 4200
(this is the first time it's been out of range..usually 34-3600..was reading low about 1.5 months ago)

Water Temp: 77-degrees
~Otherwise clear water!

*Our CSI on pool math is showing: .81 (target of -.25) with these results, is that troublesome? If so what can I do to fix it? We have back to back bookings for the next 10 days so I only have a few hours on Monday to do what I can beyond chemicals.

Our salt cell had been running @ 60% due to the recent heat wave, and I was going to turn it down but after the test, I left it alone so that the FC levels stay within range of the CYA. Thoughts or Advice?

For pH. How much acid do you add? You should shoot for 7.2. A SWG will cause it rise. You might have to add 1-2 a week. Eventually pH and TA will go down. I maintained a pool with a CH of 1000 without scaling by keeping the pH lower. Common for high CH here in AZ desert. CH does not evaporate and you keep adding CH with fill water unless you get a softener.

You FC seems fine. I wouldn't turn your SWG down unless FC keeps rising.

Have you read about lowering your TA? Pool School - Lower Total Alkalinity

The reason people lower TA is to keep pH from rising quickly, which yours seems to so you are on the right path. Don't worry about targeting a specific number for TA, only lower TA to a point where your pH seems to stabilize.

Your CSI goal is a good one and should help remove some of the scale. More on that here: Pool School - Calcium Scaling
And a CH over 1000 is manageable, several people on here are doing it right now.
