Help With Choosing New Pump

I am looking to replace my Pentair Challeger pump and 1.5 HP AO Smith motor (B2858). My inground pool is approx. 25,000 gallons and my filter is a FNS Plus 48 sq ft DE filter.

I'm not sure if I want a single speed or two speed. I guess I don't have the need for a variable speed. I'd like something more efficient and quiet. Although, as old as my motor is, anything new would fit that criteria.

Recommendations appreciated

I had to replace my pump as well last year, and I went with a Hayward Superpump. I really like it. It's quite as heck. You can barely hear it run. But feel free to go fancy if you want to spend the money on a Superpump II or a VS.

That is the best investment you ever made, but, check to see if the labor is warranted too and/or if that's an onsite warranty...if it's just parts, then you might be paying a lot more, plus the $100 install fee...so your real warranty is $155.00, plus all future labor if it's not an onsite warranty
 
Its a SquareTrade Warranty. It adds 4 years after Haywards warranty.

If the protected item is damaged and SquareTrade determines it can be repaired, 100% of the cost of parts and labor is covered. If your item can’t be repaired, SquareTrade will contact you to discuss replacement options.
 
It may help to look at solutions in terms of what you're trying to achieve and your budget. It sounds like you are replacing it because it is old and want to replace it before it goes, and you want it to be quiet, and maybe you want to save on your electrical bill, and don't plan to move anytime soon. ;) So maybe just the motor is on its last legs but the wet end is okay. If the size of the existing pump turns over the water in your pool in say a quarter of a day, then if your budget permits, the variable-speed pumps with a timer are nice and you can run it near full tilt for a while then at low speed the rest of the day. Large pumps running at low speed run cooler so lots of advantages to that. If you have a lower budget then maybe you can find a two-speed motor that fits exactly on the existing wet-end, and you can have it hooked to a mechanical timer. Lot of options.
I agree with the others on brand, I like Pentair first but maintenance on the VS motors is expensive (I don't know of anyone who rebuilds them). I like Hayward since the motors can be rebuilt, replaced with off-the-shelf AO Smiths, and parts are readily available. Jandy really seems like they have good pumps too, but I don't hear too much about them so o-rings might not be available at your local pool shop.

do you have a cross reference sheet for Hayward parts and AO Smith's OTShelf? What OTS parts of AO smith have you already used to replace on a Hayward pump and what type of pump was it? thanks

If you received a 4-yr warranty, AFTER THE HAYWARD warranty for all parts and labor, you got the best deal I have ever heard...Is SQ Trade a local outfit? if they are, pls come tell them to move to texas and open up 10-20 offices...

PS - is that $55 total or $55/year ?
