Hi All:

We bought and will be installing a 21 foot round AGP to replace our old 14 foot round coleman pool.

In our old pool. I used liquid high strength chlorine bleach.

I talked to our vendor today, and he suggests using chlorine pucks with cya. He mentioned a feeder can be used for these.

Now, I guess I will have to reread everything on here in regards to chemicals......BUT, can you please chime in so I have some idea of what way to go?

My assumption is if using the chlorine pucks with cya.......will the cya levels not get too high??? With our old pool I would obviously refill and start from scratch each spring.....I would calculate the CYA needed and add that ONCE per year.

Help please.

Follow TFPC and do what you did in the past. The pucks will raise your CYA to high levels and drop your pH too low.

If this is a vendor you are dependent on for warranty services just say "mhm" "ok" and "will do" and then disregard the advice. You don't know how hung up they might be on myths like "liquid chlorine will damage the liner / equipment" so best not to press it with them in case they will try to use it to blame you for any problems in the future.

You do want some CYA of course, whether that means starting with tabs temporarily or adding straight CYA.

Thanks.

In the past I used a sock to add cya.....took very long time.

Then I added the granules to bucket and water......very hard to get it to dissolve......ended up having granules all over floor of pool.

How do you folks add CYA.......thanks

Sock. If you hang in front of return it goes faster. I have been known to get in and swim around with the sock, if water is warm enough.
