I've read the tutorial on how to clean my DE filter. I feel fairly confident on how to go about this up until the point of where I charge the filter. I DO NOT want to charge my pool with filter media LOL. Can someone help me with understanding on how to configure my valves and skimmer s/o's so I do not do the unthinkable?

FWIW, I do not have typical wall returns. My returns are through the IFC heads and skimmer venturi's. I have two skimmers, one near and one far. I have attached a few pics of my pool equipment.

Also, I have a multi port valve on my filter. I have 3 positions.....filter, waste, and backwash. The filter is a Jandy DEV60

Thanks so much!!

After a backwash, you add the DE through the "near' skimmer with the pump running. You should close the blue handled valve (turn it horizontal) on the return side that says "near skimmer." That looks like you have a "venturi" skimmer and if you don't close that valve it will blow DE into your pool.

It is best to mix the required amount DE in a bucket or two of water and slowly pour it into the skimmer until done. The filter manual, or label, will tell you how much to add. If you only do a backwash, only use about 80% of what the instructions say. A backwash with the valve
never gets all the dirty DE out, not an issue. If you do a complete filter teardown and clean at a future date, add the full amount.
