***HELP*** Pool is green and NASTY.

Liquid is expensive, we recommend dry. If you do you liquid, you need to rinse the bottle multiple times to make sure you get all the product out.

You don't have to wait. When the CYA is in the pool, in a sock or from a bottle, assume your CYA is the target you are shooting for and chlorinate to hit FC target for that CYA.

Ok...

I started the "SLAM" process this morning. With a CYA level of 50. I have added lots of LC to this point. Do i need to be testing for anything besides FC and CC?

And do i keep adding LC until i thu the target of 20 FC?

I have been SLAMing my pool all day. I have added somewhere around 30 gallons of Liquid Chlorine. The FC is now @22 with a target of 20. I have a sand filter and it seems i am having to backwash quite often. Maybe as much as every 30 minutes. Is that normal?

So can i use a liquid "instant conditioner" instead of the granulated chlorine stabilizer?

How long do you have to wait before adding LC after adding the stabilizer?
You can use the liquid. Get it all out of the container.

Once you put the stabilizer in the pool, start the SLAM

Totally normal. Keep at it...the filter backwash frequency means you are getting at it!!!

Just a question.

Once i get the SLAM completed and get everything balanced, how much chemicals should i be adding on a daily, weekly or monthly basis? from what i have always heard is you need to keep the 3" tabs in a floater or chlorinator constantly, and that Liquid Chlorine does not last so use the granulated shock... So i am just trying to see what to expect once i get it cleared up and balanced.

You should test FC daily, and chlorinate to keep your FC levels appropriate for your CYA. Link-->FC/CYA Levels

We recommend liquid chlorine or salt water chlorine generators. Pucks are ok, but they add CYA. When CYA gets much above 70-80, it become hard to keep enough FC to sanitize, and you then need to replace water to reduce CYA. Granulated shock contains either calcium or CYA. Same CYA problem. Vinyl pool doesn't need CH, and when CH gets too high, you can get scaling. The only way to get CH and CYA out of the pool is to replace water.

Pretty unlikely local stores have them. You’ll need to order more. Tftestkits.net usually have refills that are larger.

Order more - tftestkits has fast shipping. This next part is just a suggestion. If you've been adding about a gallon of LC per day (adjust for your actual recent SLAM usage), add 1/3 gallon 3 times per day (to achieve 1 gallon in the example) until your refill reagent arrives.

Just ordered more. might have by Friday if i am lucky. i guess i will keep adding chlorine blindly until it arrives.

Can someone school me on Stenner pumps? it seems that it will be necessary to have one to keep the correct amount of chlorine in the pool at all times. We travel quite a bit and it looks like liquid chlorine will have to be added daily.

So what is the best deal in a pump?
Is it best to get it with the tank?
Can this be located outside by the pool?
Probably only need about a weeks worth of chlorine storage, but is it better to have more?

A saltwater chlorine generator would be way easier than a chlorine pump. It’s cheaper in the long run as well.

Recommendations on a SWG for an 18k gallon AGP?

Advantages and disadvantages?
Find one rated for 2x your pool size, so 40K model.

Advantages, never buy chlorine again because its made at your equipment pad. Ive got mine down to testing once a week (sometimes 2, but dont tell anyone that. )

Disadvantages: You buy all your chlorine up front and need to replace the cell when its depleted.

are there not any corrosion issues?

How long do the cells last before they are depleted?

is there a go to brand?

I would have went 3X in NY in a heartbeat, and would strongly consider 4X in a hot climate. The ROI is hardcore in your favor for most models where the cost to get in the game is the bulk of it, and upsizing is nominal compared to lifespan gained. For example, an IC40 is like buying 2 IC20s for only 20% more than one IC20. The install costs the same either way. Or going 60k from 40k nets 50% more lifespan, for another 20% more.

Saltwater is a misnomer. It’s not ocean saltwater. It’s very slightly salty water so there’s no corrosion issues that you wouldn’t have otherwise. In fact, your pool may have a good deal of salt already in it from adding acid and liquid chlorine.

Depending on the size you get, they can last quite a long time. Mine is going on four years.
