***HELP*** Pool is green and NASTY.

Liquid Chlorine = Bleach. However, Bleach in the stores can contain polymers (all Clorox bleach contains polymers), fragrances, softeners etc. All these additives cause more problems. Hard to tell if a bottle of bleach is just bleach or something else. Best to use LC.

Powder contains either Calcium or CYA. If you use them, they will raise CH and CYA. The only way to remove CH and CYA is to replace water. That is why we don't recommend them. If you know your existing CH and CYA, and you need some in your pool, no reason not to use it. In a vinyl pool, you don't need CH, and if CH gets too high you can get scaling. If you CYA gets too high, you can't keep enough FC to sanitize the pool.

Ok. So it is recommended to use LC over bleach or powder shock. I found a threat from years ago that talked of using regular bleach and using the SLAM method.

So is there a preferred place to get LC ? Pool store vs Walmart?

WalMart. Search WM for "pool essentials liquid chlorine" If you have a pinch a penny, they have 2.5G carboys for good price.

Where is SE TX. There are other sources in TX, we might recommend. Your profile says LA. That is about the best price for general retail. Post your city and we might have a better source.

Lol. Not sure how that happened. I am in Southeast Texas. An hour south of Houston. West Columbia to be exact. Between Lake Jackson and Pearland.
Sorry for all the questions. And thank you so much everyone for taking the time to respond to my stupid questions. This stuff can be overwhelming.

No menards. They are more north than me. There are lowes and home depots in lake jackson, but thats 30 minutes away or so. The local Walmart has the pool essentials so i guess I will start there. I had just read where sometimes its not as fresh and the chlorine content is lower.

WM is 10%. When you calculate the price per FC, except for special places like pinch a penny or powerwash supply houses, WM is the best buy.

Ok...

I received a K-2006 complete kit in the mail today. I also purchased an initial 10 gallons of the "pool essentials" Liquid Chlorine. Rather than sending back and ordering the TF-100, i think i will go ahead and start trying to clear this thing up. As i said it is NASTY. I have gotten out all the leaves and stuff that i am able to at the moment, but there is still quite a bit in it. I have the pump running. There has been no chemicals in the pool since last fall other than the 12lbs of granular shock i put in split between 2 days about 3 weeks ago.

So what is my first step?

😩

What do you mean by a "full set of results "?

All the SLAM talks about is CYA and PH.

Just tested PH and it is 8.2 plus and is calling for 6.1 oz PH Down.

I am currently headed to Walmart to get some PH Down. Is there anything else i should get while i am there? I currently have 10 gallons of Liquid Chlorine.
