I am struggling and hope someone can help. I had a pool guy that we let go because he was not doing his job.We just got done building it 13 months ago today. I went to Leslie's and had the water tested on Monday. They had me add 27 fluid ounces of muriatic acid and then shock, then phosphate remover as well as ph up. I did that, took another sample back in to Leslie's today here are the readings:

Free Chlorine 0.26
Total Chlorine: 3.01
PH 8
Total alkalinity 129
Calcium Hardness 136
Cyanuric Acid 5
Iron 0
Copper 0.1
Phosphates 0
TDS 500

Now they tell me I need to add 93 more fluid ounces of Muriatic Acid,17lbs 8 oz Hardness Plus, 4 pounds shock, 1 Gal 44 Fluid Oz water conditioner. Does this sound right? I have 12,500 gallon chlorine pool running pentair cartridge filter.

First of all, ditch the pool store. Get a good test kit, either the TF-100 or the Taylor K2006C, links in my Sig below.

Next, stop adding stuff to your pool. Get PoolMath from the Google Play and calculate how much liquid chlorine you need to add 5% daily. Do this religiously until your test kit comes in.

Test your water and post your results in the format
FC
CC
PH
TA
CH
CYA

You'll notice PoolMath tells you what to add and how much to add. Start with the CYA first, bring it up to 40 if necessary. If it's over 100 let us know and we can help you fix it.

Just get the results, stay out of Leslie's or any other pool store, and we'll help you get your pool clear, bright and sparkling!

Oh, and welcome to TFP!!!

welcome to tfp
you have been poolstored, sorry
they did the same to me ,add ph up to raise ph, then add acid to lower ph
poolstore results are worth exactly what you paid for them, nothing
how have you been adding chlorine the last 12 months
a tab feeder, swg or liquid chlorine
as mentioned you need a trustworthy test kit
add 1 gallon liquid chlorine each night until you can get a test kit
please add signature with type of pool, size and equipment

What size is your pool? Your signature will be the starting point for most answers to your questions. Your (not pool store’s) test results are the other starting point for answers.

You need to add about 5ppm of FC per day until you can get reliable test results. That is about 1 gallon of plain unscented non-Clorox 7.5% bleach on a 17K gallon pool or 1 gallon of 10% pool chlorine on a 20K gallon pool. You can use PoolMath to do the math for you.

Tips about bleach/liquid chlorine: check the production date it will be in Julian day (year followed by day of the year). Old chlorine loses strength. Same for chlorine left on sun or hot place.

They said add muriactic acid (lowers ph) and to add ph up....wow.

Stay out of the pool store...they just got your 💵💵💵

Listen to the advice HERE...they will steer you right, have a crystal clear pool, and save lots of money doing it
