I would like to purchase a variable speed pump from pentair 011018 IntelliFlow that will help to run the polaris 360 pressure side skimmer. with underground 1.5" pipes, would the 3HP pentair pump put too much pressure on the schedule 40 pipes (330 W.P PSI max)?. is there any other pump beside 011018 intelliflow with lower HP rating? I talked to the Leslie pool manager and he mentioned Jacuzzi variable speed pump. are they reliable?
thanks

I have sent a message to a forum member whom I am sure can provide you some guidance! They should respond shortly.

Take care.

Hi Olivier,

I do think the Intelliflo would be overkill for your set up. 1.5" plumbing can only handle 60 GPM so even if you had a 10 HP pump you physically can only get 60 gpm through the 1.5 inch plumbing. With the Intelliflo you would be paying for the higher HP range (i.e. the HP range between 1.5 HP to 3 HP that you would be unable to use), the Intelliflo does allow you to set a max RPM range so you would need to set this to not exceed the capabilities of your plumbing, this would be a little bit of trial and error when you first set up the pump. You run the pump at as high of an RPM as you could before you start to loose prime and then that would be your max RPM.

I think for your set up with 1.5" plumbing then a 1.65 HP Variable Speed Would be perfect as the high HP of 1.65 would be about the max 1.5" plumbing could handle and you would not be paying for the high HP range that you could not utilize. I personally like the PureLine Prime 1.65 HP Variable Speed Pump we have had great success with this pump as it uses one of the more reliable Variable Speed Motors which is manufactured by Century / AO Smith. You would need to get a couple 2" x 1.5" reducers but these should only be few dollars each. Here is a Video Showing the Century Variable Speed Motor Controller Interface (Starting at the 11:10 Mark)

I'm not that familiar the Jacuzzi Variable Speed pump by Leslies but I would just make sure that the manufacturer of the motor is a reputable company. Jacuzzi does not make the motor they use another company like Century / AO Smith, US Motors, Franklin, Emerson, etc.. If you could find out who they use for the motor then I could give you better feedback on that pump.

Patrick,
what is the warranty of the pump? is it energy star certified? is it possible to use the Pureline Prime 2.7HP Variable Speed pump and dial it down ? with Pentair 011018 pump, i can also dial it down and crank it up when I need to use it with polaris pressure cleaner or potentially solar heater. I knew that Pentair only warranty if i use their certified electrician to install. what is your company policy on this?
Olivier

Olivier,

The motor on PureLine Prime has an 18 Month Warranty and the pump housing has a 12 month warranty. We are currently in the process of getting the PureLine Pump Energy Star certified, the pumps are at the testing facility as we speak and we have been told we should have Energy Star Certification by Dec. 1st (but you never know if there are any bumps in the road). Yes with the Pentair 011018 you can dial it down and crank it up when you need to use it with your polaris pressure cleaner or potentially a solar heater... the only issue is that the pump may loose prime at the higher speeds as you trying to pull a higher GPM through the pipe then what 1.5" can support (i.e. trying to pull 120 GPM's through 1.5" pipe that can only allow 60 GPM's). If you purchased the 011018 pump from us then it would be a 3 year warranty if installed by a pool professional and a 60 day warranty if it was not installed by a pool professional. I hope this helps.
