Plaster
Chlorine
Salt Water Generator
Here’s a picture of the current setup. Based on my research, I’m going to use a 1.5 HP variable pump, and a 130k heat pump. I’m going to use a salt generator (55k gallons?) and am trying to decider between a cartridge filter and a 500 lb sand filter.

Tommy,
Why are you changing out, have you ever used the pool. Filter wise it's basically upto what you like sand is easiest with backwash option, DE is next in line but will need DE every time you backwash and cartridge will need to be opened up to clean. A properly operated pool lends itself to twice a season not a biggy there. DE has best filtration then cartridge and the sand. Get largest filter you can get to go longer between cleanings.Heater with NG will serve you best in the shoulder season as heat pump is slow to heat and won't work in colder temps. Pump wise get largest hp for efficiency. SWCG work well as circupool has good reviews.

I just bought the house and pool hasn’t been run in a few years. I thought changing it all to new stuff was a good idea since I plan on being here for another 15 years at least. Originally I was going to just replace the sand. I am going to test the natural gas heater that’s there, but honestly, I’d like to keep costs down. I have a pretty large solar panel setup so the electriciaty for the heat pump should be close to

I would suggest you uncover the pool first to see what's left. The pool build plans are from 68 and I'm sure it had to have been refinished more than once since. Hopefully plaster is still good. Don't start your investing until you know the pool is workable. Have seen those senerios go both ways. You may have to get the pump hooked up to start cleaning and slamming. I did a gunite pool some years back that had been closed 7 years. Took time with some bumps in the road.
