Hello. First let me say thanks to all who have provided a wealth of information on this forum. I have used intex chlorinators and I made the adaptors to fit my above ground pool. This is rhe second season using the current generator. I keep getting a low salt message and my salt reading is at 3280 so I know it is not low. I have cleaned the cell but noticed there is a sticky substance on it which i believe to be magic lube. I have no idea how I got magic lube on it other than it was globbed somewhere on a gasket and ran through the sytem and stuck to the cell. I cleaned it with vinegar with no luck. I then soaked it in a solution of 2 parts water to 1 part muriatic acid. Still no luck. I have heard dry cleaning fluid is the only thing that will clean the stuff off. Would this be safe for the cell and where would I get it? Or any other ideas? Ive got my cya level up to 60 so it is taking a lot of bleach. I didnt want to raise it until i had the chlorinator working. Thanks for any advise.

That is odd. Would a strong stream of water through the cell wash it out? Or something like Simple Green or other cleaner?
Ouch....all this cleaning is removing the lifespan off your cell. Go easy, friend. How about a few drops of dawn dishsoap and a lot of rinse water?
I am nervous to start spraying just anything on it. It is not globbed on the cell but rather a thin layer stuck over a section of the cell. I just dont know what else it could be.
Dawn sounds like a good option. The vinegar is whar is recommended for monthly and start up cleaning. The acid was recommended if vinegar didnt work. I left it for only five minites. Ill try dawn. Thanks so much for the suggestion.

Only clean the cells when you see actual calcium build up,otherwise you're just washing the magic chlorine making ingredient down the drain.
Ignore what cell maker says to do....they just want to sell you a replacement cell earlier.

Try a damp Microfiber cloth perhaps? That magic lube is some weird sticky stuff.

- strips can be off by +- 500 ppm.
