If i take that first part off (the basket part) won't all of the water just drain out of the pool? Right now when i lift the lid on the basket to feel down in there, water just pours out.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Do you have a valve in your suction line between the skimmer and pump? If so, close it, open your skimmer basket to let the water out and then take the hose off the pump outlet ( the clear hose on the right ( I guess you need a valve in the return line or you can move the multivalve to isolate the pool or you can hold the hose end above the level the pool waterline) .

This way you can see inside of the pump outlet and into the impeller. Un plug and then see if you can get the impeller to move. Use a pencil or something to make it move. If it moves with some (not great) resistance, you know the impeller should be free but if there were a rock or something else, ift may only lock the impeller with the motor spins it fast enough.

I kust read you latest message... yes, it will drain the pool. Do you plug your vacuum hose into the bottom of the skimmer?

If you plug your vacuum hose into the bottom of the skimmer, take your vacuum hose out of the pool and drain it. Place the end of the hose into the skimmer (assuming your skimmer only has one outlet). When the hose is plugged into the skimmer it will block the water from leaving your pool.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

I can get my finger in that pump far enough to touch and attempt to spin that propeller, but I am a guy with average length fingers. To keep the pool water from draining, you need to plug your skimmer and close the valve on your filter.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

After you plug the skimmer with the vacuum hose if there is any leakage you can take the black hose off the pump basket and hold tie it up above the skimmer. Be sure the multiport valve is in the closed position. You want to isolate the pump from the pool.

Lost internet connection for a minute...

Well of course, i get out there and a severe storm comes through. It's dark and wind is blowing. I'm praying it goes by me....

But, yeah i have my pump in the closed position. I have the vacuum hose in my skimmer (i just have one). Thanks for the tips. Not that losing water is my biggest problem right now....

Linen...i have piano fingers, very long for a woman, but all i could do is basically push it on the side to get it to turn and it wouldn't budge. I don't think i can get a good grip on it though.

And seriously...ONE of ya'll need to move here and be my neighbor!!!! Seriously!!!!

I guess you're thinking HECK NO!!! lol

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

The impeller will not spin freely but it should spin. You should feel the resistance of the motor.

Now that you have both the return and suction lines valved off, you can take the hoses off the motor and move into the garage or some better place to work. You could also plug it in to see the the motor will run at all or if the impeller is stuck. You should be able to run the pump dry for a couple seconds to see if it spins at all.

I assume that means something different than at my house. In Sacramento, if I see that, it means it is February and we are not going to see the sun for a month due to fog and and clouds.

Cool. Looks like he got a screwdriver in there easily. Guess mine is too long. Too bad i don't have more than one...lol.

Still storming...may storm until 10 pm here. Just my luck. Work tomorrow. In the mean time my water is just sitting there.

I thought i would put in bleach and churn the water up with my brush tonight. That's all i can think to do.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

OK... I "commuted" to Albuquerque for work for 15 months and during the summer there, between 4:00 and 5:00PM everyday IIRC they had very dramatic thunderstorms and drenching rain, for about an hour. The evening news had a story every night about someone drowning in the arroyos or under the bridge where kids and homeless would seek refuge from the rain. The bridges were everywhere in the populated areas where the city had channelized the water from the arroyos into concrete rivers. These concrete rivers had a bridge every half mile or so but the water flow came up so fast that if you were at the top of the river bed, under the roadway, that they would be washed out and drown.

Here... we had rain in May... I think... April 12th... I had to look it up... that was the last rain more an 0.1 inches in a day.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

We are way behind in rain as well. Today is the first rain in several weeks. All of our grass is dying. It has been clouding up and we may get sprinkles but no rain. Well, until i need it not too. But, pretty sure ya'll are figureing out what type of luck i have.

I lived in Truth or Consequences for a time, South of Albuquerque. I do know what you mean about the roads washing out. If they got much rain at once, which was seldom. Roads were washed out everywhere. There was no drainage system at all. No ditches for the water to go to. It would just wash out all of that sand and dirt and it was really dangerous.
