Hi! My husband and I are veteran pool owners. We have owned a doughboy 16 x 32 above ground oval pool since 1996. We had a dug out the 7 feet which has added to so much more enjoyment over the years. We have the shallow end and we even have the little buoy thing that you could put across at the point where it starts to go down to the deep which is about 4 foot give or take couple inches, and we maintain the same depth with a 2 foot wide path all the way around the inside of the pool so you could walk it. However. if you can’t swim, you better hold onto the side and not slide off that edge! One year we grown ups decided to play a little volleyball in the pool and our friend Luke was standing on the 2 foot ledge and he went to hit the ball to serve and stepped off the edge and we thought he was messing with us when he began yelling help I can’t swim, but we realized immediately that he was not kidding! The guys all laughed about it afterwards, including Luke, but that was very scary and I’ll never forget it. Safety is a big concern of mine with our pool.
Our boys were 16, 10 and 8 when we got that pool. I have always been in charge of it and the maintenance everything associated with the pool. Only with some of the manual labor do I need my husband‘s assistance. I say all that to point out that for me, it’s been a labor of love, because I’ve enjoyed every moment of having and caring for this pool, even the time we used the wrong cover and the water turned black. It’s pretty amazing to me that our pool is closed for nine whole months and that water is so clear when we take that cover off! I guess we’re doing something right however just like always the readings are off on the strip again on start up. I’m looking forward to reading some of the threads and some of your direction and advice. Just the couple things I’ve already read that, which brought me here, are so helpful you know. It’s a breath of fresh air to find a place where you’re just telling it like it is and not trying to get me to buy everything you got in the store that I don’t need..
