Hi all! First off - it's a relief to have found such a supportive community. The home we purchased in August came with a pool, so we are complete newbies to maintaining and owning one. Not going to lie, moving and then figuring out how to take care of a pool with zero prior experience was overwhelming.
The previous owner was kind enough to run through his weekly routine during our final inspection. For the sake of using the supplies the previous owner left us and keeping things simple, we have continued their routine and plan to do so until we re-open the pool next spring. To boil it down, this consists of:
- (5) 3" trichlor tablets in a tablet feeder (weekly)
- 3lbs of oxidizing shock (weekly)
- Backwash/rinse the sand filter (weekly)
- FC test (1-2 times weekly)
- Running the Dolphin/cleaning skimmers/etc. (~2-4 times weekly)
- I've incorporated the use of skimmer socks to help filter out the dog fur from our Lab who also loves to swim
The pool will be professionally closed for the season the first week of October. TFP maintenance schedule will begin when we reopen next year.
As of yesterday, I have my TF-Pro on order, which is perfect timing for the slight haze that has developed in the deep end. May need to start with our TFP maintenance plan earlier than expected!
The goal for opening next spring is to have an SWG installed. Both lights are non-functional at the moment, so we plan to look into that as well.
Looking forward to soaking in the knowledge shared here and being able to contribute once I have my own situation under control!
