LONG BEACH
Our new pool was just shotcrete today. Our PB says we’ll start filling in 5-6 weeks or less. It’s exciting but my arm is getting tired from writing so many checks. Seriously, this is the first pool we’ve built so many things are new from this angle. We bought a pool house 13 years ago and had to learn a lot. Except for equipment upgrades/replacements, we took care of everything. Hoping to get this pool completed and keep good water quality from day one with help from this forum. Thanks!

There have been a couple of members from the Long Beach, CA area that have reported high calcium hardness fill-water. One tested his water at 350 ppm. With evaporation, calcium stays behind and continues to increase each time you add fill water to the pool. When you get your test kit, test your fill water for CH.

Since you're still in the construction phase, consider installing a water softener for top-offs. If you have a whole house softener, ask your builder if it's possible to connect the fill line to softened water. Assuming you don't use solid forms or chlorine, you won't need to worry about draining/refilling the pool.
