Hello from an excited Newbie in Bixby Oklahoma!!

Wow, my gas supply company charged about $300 to change out the meter for a larger one, then the PB had a per foot charge for running my lines.
I'm assuming that the stacked stone will be only on the base of the fire features. That would be a really nice contrast to the clean lines of the pool and still water. My only caution is to confine stacked stone to an area where it wont have pool water on it. It would very quickly develope deposits that will be impossible to remove. So if your fire feature also includes water spilling into the pool, the splashing alone may cause a problem with deposits on the stone. So many details to consider, that it's really a good thing to take your time. But the other side is that the longer you plan, the more things you can find to spend money on.

I wish I could say I was the only one around here stuck with this huge charge, but alas...looks like my local gas company undersized feeder lines and now they are increasing the pipe diameter from 3/8 to 3/4 inch for all new projects -- makes me crazy. $4674. Plus new meter cost. And local plumbing cost. Gah. Remote automation for water officially on delay.

Thanks for the heads up on the gas costs! I'm hoping it won't be much of an issue. We just have to pay to run the gas, electric and water to the equipment pad. The cost to run them from the pad to the pool is included in the contract price. We are putting out pad very close to our meters, should be within 10ft or so. Hopefully it won't cost too much.

Just got off the phone with our finance guy...started out application today! Maybe we will have a pool by May!

I don't have a spa in my design and when I found out how it was to add gas I said forget it. My main reason for wanting it was a fire pit and an outdoor kitchen hook up for later. When I found out that they were quoting me 3k just to run the line and that didn't include all the stuff the city might ding me on I said forget it. I have a pretty good propane system down right now for my grill so I'll just continue doing that. If I had a spa then of course it would be required.

I like the two Radiant Fusion best that you prefer (the two darker ones, but the light one is pretty too.). In my opinion, the Designer Series is too busy up close. I like the Sandstone series, but you do have a point about the grey plaster up close. But overall, I've seen the greys make very pretty blue water colors.

Prayers for your successful cataract surgery. I wondered why you wouldn't wait until next year to at least benefit from working towards meeting your deductible earlier in the year, but since you said your deductible will double, that explains doing it now! Waiting on the pool until these extra expenses clear will be tough, but it will be all the sweeter enjoying the pool when it's done with and everything else is out of the way.

Thanks for the prayers, Jamie! Much appreciated!
I'm trying to get an answer on the price of the Radiant Fusion....I hope....I hope.....I hope I can afford it....

I really wish I had the guts to do an owner build! I'm sure you are learning so much and will end up with a GREAT pool!

Blessings!
Denise

We applied for financing this morning, got approval this afternoon. We will be closed by the end of Dec. PB is supposed to be working on some new numbers for us without the pergola and outdoor grill and cabinetry.
When I spoke with the finance guy, he said every builder has an "imaginary dig list" THST they have to get you on right away so that you can get in line to start. He said he works with my PB a lot, knows the owners real well and once we know when closing will be, he will call the owner and get us put on the list before we close and before they receive the first payment.

I sure hope we'll end up with a great pool!!! It is a little intimating, but the people on this site are so helpful that it seems more doable. The more I learned here, and the more I interviewed builders, the more I realized I would have to do tons of oversight to get what I wanted, and I figured if I was going to do that much overseeing, I might as well contract it out myself! I hope it all works out.

One local TFP member has been especially helpful in encouraging us to brave this route. You may want to check out his build thread, because he ended up using the Radiant Fusion (Laguna, I think) on his pool and loves it. Pictures with water start on page 5, although I'm not sure if there are any with full sun: Owner Builder North Texas

We just closed on our financing yesterday (after many ups and downs with a seemingly incompetent title company) so I am eager to start buying equipment before the new year. It sounds like your financing is moving right along and your finance guy is looking out for you. I hope it all goes smoothly. I'm excited for you!

Yes, I'm feeling the same way about being home to oversee things. I'm hoping I can stipulate no building/work on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays since those are the days I work. I do feel some confidence in our PB to do a good job since every time I mention the company to someone, they tell me what a great job they do and that they have never heard any complaints. They are definitely not the cheapest though!

I must have missed that thread! My participation here has been spotty lately due to not having the time lately. Thank you for the suggestion!

Congratulations on getting your financing finished! That's awesome! I completely understand about the headaches. We recently closed a refi on our house and it definitely didn't go smoothly. Hopefully, the pool loan will make up for it!
The people here really are a sweet helpful and kind bunch of folks! I'm blessed to have found this site-quite by accident!

Just spoke with the finance guy and I really really like him! He is SO helpful! He is going to call the other designers at our PB and "gently" nudge them to get our guy to get everything answered and figured so we can finalize the design and settle on a price. Hopefully, it won't make things awkward with our guy since I work with his wife....

Wow that finance guy is awesome! I wish I had someone to help nudge our pool builder. Frankly nudging is probably not enough for mine but hopefully it works for yours! Congrats on your getting this far. You already have 12 pages on your thread and still haven't even started digging yet. I think this thread might rival Suz's for most number of pages...

I'll pray for your surgery! I missed where you mentioned it. I know it is hard but I really think it is better to get it over with as soon as you can so you can get it behind you. That was my thought with my foot surgery. As soon as I realized I needed another one I put it as soon as I could.

Not 10 minutes after I got off the phone with finance guy, I got a text from PB saying an email was forthcoming this afternoon with the requested information and updated pricing. We'll see...

Thanks for the prayers, Umm! I have very early cataracts that seriously hinder my night vision. Since I drive to work in the dark and home from work in the dark, it's a problem. It will actually be 2 surgeries since they don't do both eyes at the same time.

Yes, 12 pages of not much yet! But soon, hopefully!! And Suz's thread will always remain a classic standout because it's SWEET SUZ!

Don't worry about the cataract surgery. It's only a 15 min procedure and a couple weeks of putting eye drops in, then repeat. Of all surgery it is the one elective procedure with the single highest satisfaction ratings. Quick, easy, painless, and what a difference. You should actually be looking forward to getting this taken care of.

I'm not worried just disappointed at the money I have to spend during the holidays and when I have a pool I would rather upgrade or furniture I'd rather buy. Plus, I have had to rearrange my work schedule and try to get people to switch with me or cover my shifts- something that is difficult to do in my unit. I will be glad when it's all over. This will be my 3rd surgical thing in the past 3 years- all of the around Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's almost become part of our holiday tradition- "What surgery would you like this year, Denise?" Lol!

Got several pieces of good pool news today.

1. Talked to my brother in law, he's a plumber, about the size of our gas meter. He assured me that it's not a problem and the gas company will replace it , if need be, free of charge.

2. Our mortgage company released our appraisal for the pool financing and title work has been done.

3. Our PB finally gave me some concrete pricing answers (thanks to our finance guy!) and we are currently number crunching and finalizing in preparation for contract signing.

4. The Radiant Fusion I want is an almost 4K upgrade (boo), however, all the other colors I am considering are in the base price.

5. They add the shells to all of their Gemstone products at no additional cost. Adding the crystal pebbles is about $750 but it sounds like it is an either/or situation...

I think I might make budget and be pleased with my choices! But I haven't looked at tile or stone yet.....

Another thing I finally filled me in on (after asking several times) is that I have to get the utilities moved BEFORE they dig. Guess I'll call on that tomorrow and find out the process and the cost...
