We find free pool store tests pretty worthless and the store advice even worse... there are some good ones but you never know which one you have 'till it's too late. So get yourself a test kit. I got my TF-100 back in 2015 and still have it... several refill sets now. Also since you have a salt pool you'll need a K1766 salt test kit. There are several choices and here's a little help selecting the right one:

As you read through this material you may find it's a little different than what you've heard especially when it comes to things like "shocking" a pool and using chlorine tablets. That's because both of these practices don't work. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. Also if you don't need to be a chemist to learn this stuff. Most people are solidly taking care of their pool in days not weeks. We have people that will get you up and running. Many of the ones that helped me 9 years ago are still here.
