If you are not going to be swimming for a few days what is the best strategy with a heater to minimize fuel usage? Should you keep the heater off for a couple of days until 12 hours or so you are going to swim? Or should you keep it on every day?

FYI - I have a Natural gas heater. I live in Toronto and like the water to be about 85 for swimming so that almost always requires heating, with the exception of July.

I believe with a gas heater it is best to heat on demand before you want to use the pool. If you are not using the pool for a few days then turn the heater off and let the water temperature drift down. It takes a but of planning and anticipation to get the heater going in advance of when you may want to swim.
