I have a Hayward heater model HP21104T and it is leaking around the bottom pipe. They tell me I have to buy a new one,is this true. Thanks

The pipe on the bottom is leaking , we tried to tighten and that did not work.So I heated it and it melted.My question is can you replace that whole center unit or do I need to buy a new heater?

They can't make you buy a new one if you don't want to.
So, the answer is no, you do not have to buy a new one.
In any case, if you don't trust the service company's recommendation, you can always get a second opinion.
My question is can I buy just the middle section? Do you know where I can buy ? Thanks

There is no part number for “middle section”.
Do they still the Hayward HP21104T heater ? If so where can I buy one or get parts ?
