I am looking for suggestion on adding a heater my Intex 18 x 52 ultra frame. Mainly for comfort and to be able to swim year round.

A Nat gas 100,000 - 150,000 BTU should do fine for that size pool. My 18' round gets about 2* temp rise per hour on 100,000 BTU\

I live in the PNW where electricity is much cheaper than gas. I'm using a heatpump by AquaCal, model is IceBreaker SQ166R. It both heats and cools if needed. Works quite well and is fairly energy efficient.

I have a 32x16 pool with a slight deep end and it has no problem keeping the temp 20+ degrees above ambient temperature.

I’ve been researching this quite a bit this summer. My plan to heat the pool is based on this YouTube video. https://youtu.be/89s8Zmq4INg. So my plan for next summer is to buy this portable propane heated camping shower, a pump and a few hoses. We already have an extra propane tank. I plan on heating it as needed, not continuously. We lost a bunch of good swimming days this summer because our 10x30 Intex was too cold to swim.
