I’m considering replacing a Frog chlorine dispenser with SWG in our 2 year old pool. Looking at the plumbing, I’m questioning the need for both a check valve and the use of four 90’s to make a trap. Assume this was to prevent heater core corrosion from dispenser backflowing chlorine into heater when pump is off. Any reason I shouldn’t just remove the trap and leave check valve?

Welcome to TFP.

The trap is not required.

The CV on the heater output is needed if you have a tab chlorinator after it.

If you remove the tab chlorinator and install a SWG the CV is no longer required.
