Our heater is not working. It has an error code of dPO or dP0. Anyone know what that would mean? It's an AquaCal aerotemp heater. The pool store came to look at it and they weren't sure what it was either.

See if you can find a parts manual for your model of heater. If you have the model number this might be easier. Look for the thermostat probe, it most likely goes into the water inlet on the heater.

Small children are smarter than the pool store! Yes I found the manual. Hopefully it will be an easy fix but we shall see. It's finding someone to fix it that is the problem. AquaCal wants $125 an hour
I could not find a schematic for this unit, so I am not sure where this thermostat probe lives on the unit. There is two ways of testing/fixing this. The preferred method that most people use is,...just throw parts at it. I would rather test and verify. A Volt/Ohm meter is your best friend here as well as a good idea of how to test things with one. Being a thermostat control I would imagine it will either return a voltage to the board telling the controller the temp or offer a resistance to a current flow to do the same. Not having any info on the system and how it works, I can't really offer an opinion or advise on how to test.

You might be surprised how easy it is it replace. From looking at my heater most of the sensors have just two wires that are easily removed and all but one could be turned out with a crescent wrench, the other had screws holding it in.

An open could also be a wire. Mice seem to love the taste of wire insulation. Start by having a good looksee.
It would also help a huge amount of you could list the model number of the heater. Makes a big difference when hunting for a manual or an exploded view.

it is an AeroPump AT8500-A. I found the manual and the error code is an open thermometer probe. Thank you. Says to inspect wires before replacing. I dont know where it is though and the manual doesn't show it either.
I'd try calling inyopools. They may have an exploded parts diagram they can email. They have parts

Could this have been caused by improper pool closing by the pool company? That is what we were originally told but not sure if that is still true if it is just a sensor.
I wouldn't think so. All they would have down is drain the water out so it doesn't freeze. The sensor should be safely inside the housing where nobody gets near it.
