We are pricing out a pool heater install - all our equipment is Hayward. Is there any benefit to stay with Hayward for the heater? Looking at INYOpools, I think I would go with either the Hayward 400K or the Raypak 400K - just not sure which is better in the long run, for both longevity and for integration with the OmniPL controller.

Thoughts?

Both heaters are controlled by the “fireman’s switch”. The OmniPL does not know or care which heater it is controlling. They both work the same to it.

The Hayward 400K gas heater is a forced draft heater with an air blower and complex controls.

The Raypak heater is a larger natural draft heater that has simple operation but since it’s burners are open at the bottom it tends to develop corrosion around the burners.

Two very different designs. Each with its strength and weakness.

Have the Hayward 400K on NG and have had no issues. Heater has a bypass. OmniLogic controls the heater through a low voltage replay and the valve on the bypass.
One thing often over looked is amble gas supply. For NG, this starts at with the correct size service meter, usually with a capacity of 630 CHF, at 2 PSI, correct size pipe to the heater, dropdown pressure regulator, qualified installer.

I have already contacted gas company for any costs related to a 2 PSI meter and there is no cost for that upgrade. Two regulators, one for the existing main house feed to lower for all existing appliances, and the second just before the new pool heater. The 2 PSI will run via 3/4" pipe to the heater, where it will then drop down pressure with the additional regulator.

Gathering plumber(s) information now for that quote(s).
