Thinking of having a heat pump installed to extend the swimming season in the Houston area. Would like to know how well the heat pump work for cooling down pools? Last summer my pool temperature were in the high 80's and low 90's. Looking for real life experiences with heating and cooling a pool.

Heat pumps work great for both, especially in Houston. We swam all of last October because of the heat pump and we've been swimming since last Saturday. The heat pump has been off since Monday and the solar panels and solar cover have kept the water temp between 88 and 91 all week. For "free" Solar would work well if you have south or west facing roof available for solar panels. We use our solar panels to cool the pool during summer by running them overnight. A solar cover will also help to warm the pool by slowing heat loss overnight. We picked up 5-8 degrees in spring and fall with the solar cover.
