Hello,

I have owned a pool for 7 years and other than an algae growth a few years back our pool water has been crystal clear. Pool is manually vacuumed at least 1 time per week (usually 5-7 times) and water tested weekly except a few weeks ago when temperature dropped and I didn't want to get in the pool (no heater). So it went about 10 days with no vacuuming and no chemicals except adding tablets to chlorine floater. Since then it is hazy (can barely see bottom). After reading on this site determined we needed a new spider gasket on multiport valve. Replaced gasket Saturday (2 days ago) and have been running pump 24/7 but water is still hazy. Added both clarifier and algaecide. According to Taylor 2006 test my levels are below.

FC 7.5 (added 64 oz LC to increase from 5 to 7.5 when I initially tested this morning)
TC 7.5 (also 5 prior to LC addition)
CC 0
PH 7.4
TA 120
CH 140
CYA 55

Am I being impatient after the gasket replacement and LC addition or should I be doing something else to clear hazy water. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hey IkIein and Welcome !!!

Algecide is counterproductive during the season. It consumes FC and vice versa, leaving you with less of each.

It also can't overcome an active algae bloom so it doesn't do what folks expect.

Round up the CYA to 60, so your slam target is 24 FC. Replenish back to 24 FC as often as it needs, which may be 2 hours at first. As the process plays out it holds longer between doses.

Thank you. I will try the slam with target FC of 24.

Then let the filter do its job although the clarifier you used may gum up the filter and you are going to need to be patient while the clarifier breaks down.
