I have an in ground pool & use Baquacil chemicals. After I opened my pool & put in the chemicals my pool was very cloudy. One week later I flocced it , let it sit for 48 hrs & vacuumed it to waste . Then I had to let it resettle & do this all over again. It’s clear in the shallow end, sides of deep end & somewhat deep end of the pool. I still have haze in the deep where it’s not clear . I’m confused as to what to try next . Should I try a liquid flocculant or do a powder flocculant again? Someone suggested to put DE in my skimmer basket as I have a sand filter & that might collect the fine particles still in the pool. Never used DE let alone with a Baquacil chemical pool. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to TFP! Curious, but is there any reason you are sticking with Baquacil versus chlorine? Most of our members use liquid chlorine (or a salt generator) to produce free chlorine for sanitation. If anything, most people find us at TFP wanting to convert from Baqua to chlorine. We certainly almost never recommend using a floc of any kind due to the complications it can cause later. So before we try to get you in the right direction, it would be good to know a little more about your situation, pool, equipment, etc.

I have a 2700 gal pool . It is a vinyl liner & I have a 1hp sand filter. When we bought the house that is what the previous owner was using so we just kept with the Baquacil. They said it was better for the liner, your hair & skin, etc… They also told me it is a nightmare to convert to chlorine. I have been wanting to convert the last year or two but have been nervous & skeptical as I hear stories about chlorine pools & how the sun eats up the chlorine & you just keep adding it all the time. Also I hear of green pools when they open & algae . So you can see why I’m nervous of converting but I’m tired of paying a lot for the Baquacil chemicals . I heard I could try DE in my skimmer basket but I’m not sure with the Baquacil chemicals . Any help would be great as I’m just ready to close the pool for this year !

I see. Well, let me tell you that much of the "talk" about chlorine is unfounded. After all, chlorine has been the pool industry's standard for many decades. The only difference between now and say 20 years ago is that there is more science behind its use, the types of chlorine, and how much is really needed for sanitation and to prevent algae. It is true that with any conventional chlorine pool, it requires x-amount of chlorine each day. If your pool is only 2,700 gallons, it won't be much. That is correct right? .... only 2,700 gallons? If so, your small pool could be managed as a seasonal pool. If that was a type and the pool is larger please confirm.

I just want to be sure about the pool size so we can help give you the best advice.

Pool is 27,000 gal
Good. :goodjob: I figured as much. Ha. Listen, we have literally thousands of TFP members in your area. @newdude is one of many. We are open & honest about water chemistry and the best way to manage your water. Take some time to learn about the basics here with us and you'll see just how easy it can be. Start at our Pool Care Basics, but also be sure to have a proper test kit. Beyond that, swim season should be very enjoyable for you. IMO - Covert to chlorine. You'll be MUCH happier.

Hey cray and Welcome !!!

+1 to all the above.

Ditch the baqua. It's about tied for the most expensive route (with mineral springs) and it's the most difficult to get right, or correct once it goes south. But the upfront costs alone...... ooof.
