Hazy Pool, Solid Levels

Hi All - thank you in advance for not only reading this but helping me out! It’s my second year with a pool and I’ve read tons of articles on here and bought myself a TF-100 test kit.

My pool was looking perfect 2 days ago as I was maintaining levels. Unfortunately I noticed some green on the bottom + cloudiness on the deep end last night. I got the following reads from testing:
FC=4.5
CC=.5
TA=50
CH=75
CYA=45
Chlorine =3-6
Ph=7.5

I did my weekly backwash, then used pool math and added some soda ash last night but things aren’t looking any better this morning.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I’m hosting a party this Sunday! Thank you all again, happy to be here

Sounds like you have algae. Do this:

Skip the OTO chlorine test that uses the comparator block. Use the FAS-DPD drop based test for accuracy.
CYA is non-linear, so 45 is not an option. Your CYA should be registered as 50, which likely means your FC has dropped below minimum. FC/CYA Levels How are you chlorinating?

Thank you! I’ve been shocking / SLAMing with liquid chlorine and I have a floater with 2 tabs in it.

Every chlorine tab you use is increasing your CYA 2-3ppm.
So your SLAM level is changing, which has the effect of making each ppm of FC less effective.

Wise to discontinue use to tabs.

Sounds good! I’ll remove the floater and start SLAM tonight, looks like I’ll be adding 5 gallons of liquid chlorine

I just retested:
CYA=30
FC=2.5
TC= 3

Pool Math says 3 Gallons for SLAM. Is this 3 Gallons total or every few hours?

Then it's GREAT you asked.

You bring FC back to 12, with as much needed, as often as its needed. It'll chew through it fairly quick at first and if it loses 4 in 2 hours, add 4 back to 12. As the process plays out the FC holds longer and longer and you can extend your frequency with less needed each time. For example, after 6 hours, it loses 2 ppm. You're doing great and put it back to 12 by adding 2ppm.

Test the FC level and add enough chlorine to bring FC up to SLAM level 3-4 times per day.
