Hi All, Just joined.

Just wondering if someone experienced a cell go bad in 3 years. I have a Haywad TCell-9 for a 12000 gallon pool. I clean the cell with muratic acid and all is good. After a month or two; it goes out of wack saying my sallt is very low. I checked Salt with a different device and it is at 3700. Chems are maintained weekly. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Well for starters the cell gets harmed from cleaning with MA especially multiple times and clean only if absolutely necessary. The bigger question is what are you testing with and can we see all the pool levels....

I suspect that your cell is depleted. What % do you run it at for how many hours a day?

This is the basic information we need to know in diagnosing a problem:

  • Report all readings on the diagnostic screen.
  • Report all readings when you..
    • Go to the diagnostic screen, note the readings and then press the + button to reverse the polarity.
    • When the new numbers appear, see what they are.
    • Then, press + again and note the new readings.
  • What are the first seven characters of the cell and box serial numbers?
  • What is the actual salinity and how are you measuring it?

will get the readings. it is a bit hot here - 117.

Moral of the story: Bad cell.
Still surprised that the cell got bad in < 3 years. Contacting Hayward on their warranty. will see. Thanks to all for their inputs.

For now, replaced with a Hayward T-Cell 15 (recommended from pool store).

Any recommendations on how long to run the pump with a TCell15. i have chlorinator at 75%.

If you are keeping your CYA at 70 ppm or so, I would target adding 4 ppm FC per day.
In your 10500 gallon pool, you can run it 8 hours at 75%. Then test daily and see if you need to adjust.

You add FC via the SWCG or using liquid chlorine.

Test as often as you can. Once you understand your pools' needs and the SWCG generation, you can back off testing. I test twice a week.
