Hello,

I have an older Hayward SP4000 pump. I know the pump is long discontinued as is the parts. The collar for the pressure side is damaged, so the pump cannot be used. Can anyone direct me to a place that I can purchase this black piece?

I am not ready to buy a new pump just yet, was hoping to get a few more seasons out of this old girl.

Thanks!

That collar is not available separately. It is part of the SPX3200UNKit that comes with both unions and O rings. Unfortunately, Hayward only made the pump to use those connections and it would require cutting the plumbing to replace that collar in any case..
I have seen some use a worm-drive hose clamp to hold that part together with some success.
Even Hayward was not happy with that pump and discontinued it quickly, it was only made for about ten years.

Thank you for the information. If I remove this black collar that is damaged, I don't see how I can use the part you linked (SPX3200UNKit) as the pump itself seems to only accept this collar. Can I replumb this or am I missing something? I have included a few pictures below of the pump with the union and damaged piece removed. The connection on the pump side is not threaded, so I am not sure what else I can use here.

Does the piece connected to the pump in the picture below come off some how?

I appreciate the help on this!

Not sure what the damage is, but a pipe clamp wrapped around the union collar can help keep it in place if that is the problem.
Not a guarantee, but I've seen it work on a pool.
No, the part on the pump is not made to be removed. The only almost sure repair is to replace the entire assembly. Even then that part on the pump sometimes is deformed and won't seal. I quit working on those pumps 10 or more years ago. Too many issues with repairs that didn't work, especially on the first series.

Thank you for the detailed information, very helpful!! Can you do me one last favor and recommend a good replacement pump? I have a Jandy iAqualink/RS that I use for automation. It's a 20k gallon pool/spa overflow. I use liquid chlorine specifically so no salt system or anything like that.

The "teeth" on the black collar that lock it into those three tabs are what broke, so the collar is okay for now, just won't seal because there is only one of the three teeth left.

Sorry, no fix for that kind of damage. Only a replacement of the parts might work.

What is the software revision of your iAqualink? That can be found in the "system" section of the menu. If it is O or later, the system can directly communicate with a Jandy or Pentair VSP. Otherwise, a VSP that can use "relay" inputs can be used, like a Waterway Power Defender 270, can be used to have the Aqualink change speeds as other equipment is operated or if you have un-used relays. All that is required is getting some sprinkler wire with at least four conductors. Its available online for as little as $1150.00. Crazy to say "as little as" until you compare it to other major brands

The Pentair Whisperflo VST can also be relay controlled, but you need to purchase their communication cable as well.

If you aren't worried about/don't need complete speed control and want an easy install, the Hayward W3SP3215X20XE is a VSP that can be used with the existing relay used now and its internal programs set to speeds you desire.

Then, there is the Calimar/Blue Torrent/Black & Decker/Circupool 3hp VSP. All the same pump, but the Calimar is priced the least at about $600.00. With the addition of its automation adapter that uses relay inputs, it can be controlled by the Jandy. I have no experience with these, but there are many on this blog that love them.
