hayward Return Jet Fittings vs Hose/Pipe Fittings

I am looking to buy a hayward salt generator for my 17K above ground pool. I understand about sizing but can someone tell me the difference between Return Jet Fittings and Hose/Pipe Fittings. My hayward pump and sand filter are currently hard plumbed with pvc.

Are you talking about the above ground specific model? The above ground one comes with a threaded elbow fitting that goes into your return which allows the cell to hang vertically off of the return fitting, then the filter hose that normally attaches to the return fitting gets attached to the other end of the cell.
