hayward pump problems

A new guy here, a new pool owner. In ground pool. The impeller broke on my hayward super II. The pump is old, the model and serial number have faded into the past. I ordered a new impeller per the part numbers on the old impeller. The part number from the old impeller is for a 1 HP unit, but the motor is 3/4 horse. But i figured the 1 HP impeller worked before it will work again. I put it on, now the motor is running hot and the thermo will shut it off. What gives? Any advice would be great!

The total hp is rated hp x service factor (s.f on motor).

The SP3005C impeller takes a total hp of 0.75.
The SP3007C impeller takes a total hp of 1.10.
The SP3010C impeller takes a total hp of 1.50.

If the impeller was clogged enough such that the flow was reduced by about 20 to 30 percent of what it would be with a clean impeller, that would reduce the load on the motor enough to make it work.

That Super II pump is a full rated pump and I've found pictures of them on the net that have a 3/4 hp 1.65 SF motor on them. With that the SFHP would be 1.24 hp so it'd still be less than the rating of the impeller.

Take the old and new impeller and measure the outside diameter. Let us know if they're different.

If you can't send that one back you could have a local machine shop trim the outer diameter down a little. The Sp3010C is 4-3/4" diameter and the SP3007C is 4-11/16" OD, So if you had 1/16" to 1/8" trimmed off of it, it should run fine.

Clever:

I assume you already corrected your issues with your pool pump. I had issues like this with my pump that was removed and taken for service. Turns out the motor wiring was backward (hot and neutral) and the ground had issues as well. Make sure the electrical connections are correct. Make sure the ground is proper.
