Hayward Heater

Anyone know what the hayward heat exchanger gaskets are made of? Not the rubber O rings, the white fiber looking tape between the sheet metal parts. Looking for a substitute. Thanks

Most white gasketing material used in furnaces, boilers and heaters are fiberglass/silica based. Newer ceramic fiber fiber based insulation/gasketing material with a higher temperature range should be an acceptable replacement. This is available from Amazon in various "thicknesses" CeraTex 3170 Ceramic Fiber Paper, High Temperature Insulation Gasket or Liner for Kiln Stove Furnace Glass Fusing, Thickness 1/4" Size 11" x 12" 3 Sheets: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific . Should be able to cut and tack in place with high temp silicone. Haven't used it myself and compression ratio may be different between the two materials.
