Hayward H series Gas Heater Valve

I am getting the “IF” error code and trying to figure out how to fix my Hayward gas heater. I took the gas valve off and the piece in the picture fell out of it. Any idea what it’s for?

Don’t know what that piece is but gas valves cannot be repaired.

You probably need to replace the gas valve.

@swamprat69 may have ideas.
