Hayward Filter Housing Lock Nuts

I recently replaced the o-rings and bulkhead fittings on a Hayward filter housing (C3020 filters) to fix a leak.

Unfortunately, the leak is still there (about 1 drop per minute) and I think it's because I wasn't able to fully tighten the 3" lock nuts.

What is the best tool to use to get a good grip on the lock nuts?

Should I be using teflon tape or ??? to get a better seal?

I have the same filter! I use a pass through ratchet with 3/4 inch socket to tighten it.

If you’re talking about here(circled in yellow) yes use Teflon tape and a pair of channel locks to tighten.

Thank you Lee. I was hesitant to use Teflon tape because the original (20 years ago) install did not use it.
