Hayward EcoStar SP3400VSP Pump Stalled Error

Good News!! On my Hayward SP3400VSP that stalled again, :( Hayward had sent the repair man the parts and the repair man replaced both the Controller & Driver! It cost me $150 in labor to have it installed because it was out of warranty. Hayward must know that something isn’t right with their pump.

I've also just encountered this error on a pump I inherited when I purchased the home a year ago. Re-surfaced and replumbed the entire pool/spa, had quite a few issues with PB I'm still trying to get fixed, lights shorted out just recently which I'm trying to get fixed, now the pump stopped working. I swear this pool is cursed. I just sent a PM to the Hayward account and submitted an e-mail on their website.

My Hayward SP3400VSP is giving me the errors "Check system failed to start pump" and "Check motor and wet end for binding".

I've tried turning the breaker off for 20-30mins a couple of times but that didn't work. I cut the power to the pump and tested the continuity between the drive module's blue, black, and red wires. They were 5.2, 5.4, and 8.5 which sounds like I have a bad motor?

abeer,

how old is your pump? do you know? You can check by the serial number...my suggestion is to get both PB and Hayward to change out the ecostar for a tristar..get the 2.7HP..if not, you will always have this problem bc it's a design flaw and the new parts only fix 1 of many bad flaws...the new replacement parts for the OP could fail next week, so it's not like it's a 100% perm fix

Laura, glad you were able to get your ecostar fixed, but yes, this pump is notoriously known for its defective design...hopefully you will get at least a year w the new replacement parts..good luck

How do you check the age by the serial number (21111504051735006)? I reached out to Hayward and gave them the serial number, waiting to hear back from them. If they can't help me I will look into replacing with a TriStar. I'm also tempted to switch to pentair since I have pentair filter and salt cell. I'd also like to add automation at some point.

Abeer,

if you do not have automation by Hayward, I would definitely go w a Pentair...the Intelliflo by far is the best VSP by many board members...I thought you had Hayward automation, but if you don't, go Pentair for sure....

Thanks, that's exactly what I was thinking of doing. I already have Pentair filter and salt cell and would eventually like to get automation so I figured I should switch over to the Intelliflo. Thanks for the link to that thread.
