Looking for some advise. I have a Hayward Ec40 1 hp 72 finger style pump on a 15x30 above ground pool. Started this season with de going through filter and spitting back into pool. Took apart filter cleaned fingers in acid as all recommendations state. Replaced top and bottom tube sheets and shaft orings. Put all back together and of course pool is now green. Start pump up - basic on/off button no extras on it. Add 4lbs de as per pump, no I don’t weigh, just add 4 coffee cans ( been doing samething for 5 years and worked fine) psi starts at 10, vacuum green algie brush sides treat with chlorine and algicide. Let run and psi upto 20 now. Bump handle and let run for a while. Now pool is aqua in color. Disassembled pump wash fingers with hose, washout all de and start pump again. Add de and now pump is running at 20 psi from the start. Any help would be appreciated as I’m ready to close pool for season

Welcome to TFP.

DE filters clog quickly when you have algae in the water. Filtering does not fix and algae problem. Filtering will clear water after the algae is killed by chlorine.

We use the SLAM Process to deal with algae problems. You need to do your own testing with a good test kit like the TF-100 Test Kits or the Taylor K-2006C. See Test Kits Compared

If you ate going to do the SLAM Process best yo add the XL Option so you don’t run out of reagent. And the Speedstir Magnetic Stirrer makes testing easier and more accurate.
