I purchased a house three years ago with a Hayward DE 6020 filter, we have cleaned it periodically over the years.

Last week, after a cleaning the filter will no longer pass water or very slowly through filter. The pool got cloudy and I called the pool company.

They recommended that we replace it with a Hayward 525/725 Cartridge filter for $3100/$3500.

My question is should we replace it or would changing the grid assembly on the old DE filter solve the problem? We had no leaks or other issues before?!?

Why won't the filter allow water through? How was it cleaned?
Does the pressure start low and build quickly? That's the filter doing what it is designed to do and the cloudy water is most likely algae. A grid replacement is a viable, and very much less costly, option if bad grids are truly the problem.

It was washed down with a hose, we had pressure for a week and stopped. Washed again and it never had pressure.
Never had pressure usually means that the pump is not moving water. High pressure on the gauge means that water is not getting through the filter. Be sure to clean and lube the pump-lid O ring with a light coating of pool lube (just enough to make it shiny). Number one reason a pump is not moving water seems to be a dry/missing lid O ring.
