Hayward 400FDN Remote Control Wiring

I purchased a ThermoMart temperature control device. It allows for 2 wire remote control connection to a pool heater. According to the Hayward 400fdn manual there should be a junction box that has the place for the 2 wire connection for "remote control". I cannot for the life of me seem to find it AND the board seems to be "empty" at the field connection terminals .... Is this normal? Am I missing the location of the remote wirring connectors ?

Can I just solder 2 wire connectors on the board at the missing "field connector" terminal?

see attached exerpts from the manual and a photo of my board

Follow the 120V or 240V cable that powers the heater and it will lead you to the junction box.

Show us pictures of the heater and where you connected the power.

Also picture of the heater data plate showing the model number.

What people write often does not reflect the reality of what they have.

Since you do not want to show us pictures maybe @ChrisLPC will have ideas of why your heater does not conform to the Hayward manual.

You know if you are going to be a smart Rear then no need to reply any further!
I can hope for ideas from others. I received a 400 FDN directly from Hayward. I can gladly send photos of the 400FDN heater but they will be the same as every 400FDN I’ve seen or had. I sent pictures of the board.

The remote connection wire comes in a plastic bag with wire nuts and fuses. It connects with a white connector on the green pcb somewhere not the blue pcb I believe. Been a while since I installed this connection to an Omni

This is an outdated version of the manual for that heater. This is the kit that should have come inside of the heater taped to the side in a plastic bag. Find where it plugs in on the board and you should be good. I have never connected to “field wiring “ it always says remote.

Thanks to everyone that replied!!

I know have my ThermoMart remote up and working. The guy that helped me lift the heater when I installed it had set the small bag with the remote wiring harness aside -- and yes it does appear that the "online " manula is a bit deprecated. But all is well now.

Does anyone know why the Hayward company set the lowest heater setting to 60 (approx) ? Why not 40 or 35? And with that said - is there a reason I would not use my ThermoMart remote to turn the heater on at 35 deg to help with freezing? I have my pool equipment (finally) enclosed and plan to leave my pool open all year round (yes I have a generator))

To protect the heater from corrosive condensation.

The Hayward H-Series heaters say "Do not use the heater to maintain the water temperature just above freezing or for freeze protection."

If you want a gas heater to operate without damage at low water temperatures you need one like the Hayward HC Series that has a condensate management system. And even then they tend to not last long when operated that way.
