Have to upgrade control center for a VSP?

I wonder if I may change to a VSP but use it as a single speed pump, i.e. as a drop in replacement to the current single speed pump?

I want to change to a VSP in seek for lower noise and electricity bill. However, my pool is quite old and comes with compool CP2000 control center and LX-10 power center. A contractor says I must spend another ~$1K to upgrade the control center first to enable a VSP. If that is the case I may hold off for a while as the upfront cost sounds too high.

VS pumps have an internal scheduler. So I would think you could just not use the 'compool' device? What does it control?

VS pumps are direct wired to a breaker. Thus they have power to them all the time. You can then use their internal scheduler or an outside automation (normally pool and automation must be from same manufacturer).

Not sure I helped, but we can discuss more!
