I know there are a few different part kits for servicing the gears inside but was wondering how often should the flaps be replaced?
what is the failure of a flap?
I have a couple of neighbors with flappers in their A&A water valves. All the valves are over 10 years old and on the original flappers. My 25+ year old water valve is on it's original set of acrylic balls. Once one of the balls fails, I'll need to install the flappers. Seems either tend to hold up really well.
The newer gearsets with 2 opposing gears on the outside top are also much jore robust than the older single gear gearsets.
Mine broke flapper after flapper that just got epoxied back on. I replaced two gearsets myself. Then about 5-7 years ago I finally got the head replaced under my lifetime warranty and there have been no problems since.
The reason I'm asking is because when I am in the pool sometimes I can hear one or more of the popups in like stuttering or actually bouncing up/down. I have pulled the popups and cleaned or replaced but still happens, not always the same ones either. I have replaced the gear set, the slip plates but it still is happening. So I wonder if I have a Flap sticking or something, I do not know.
