Harris verses Hayward???

Been looking at the Harris Aboveground pumps.They look the same has a direct replacement to my Hayward Matrix.I have a 2 speed 1 hp Matrix now.Looking at the 2 speed Harris version with 1 hp and 1.5 hp.I run my pump now about 10 hours a day on a split of 5 morning and 5 at night.Wondering if the 2 speed version worth the extra.Your should I keep the extra in my pocket and just go back to a single speed. Also,should I go to the 1.5 hp.Will it make that much difference.Thanks..
 
If a 1 HP pump has been doing fine then why change it?

What problem are you trying to solve by going to a larger pump that will use more electricity?

Again,just wondering what others who use Harris Pump's think about the product.I like the 2 speed Hayward that I had.Just wish it had a little more power on the low end.Thats why I thought maybe going up a 1/2 hp may give it a little more .But,I'm most likely going to just switch back to a single speed 1 hp because it stay's on a timer.I'm using the old single speed 1 hp now since the other kicked the bucket this week.I contacted Hayward Technical Support several weeks ago about a issue I had and they didn't care about my concern.So I'm done with them.
 
I was left a Harris AGP pump from the prior home owners. I swapped it in this year as the other pump's basket cover was severely yellowed and you could not see through it. As well the base was disintegrating to the point it had one screw holding it onto the base.

We ran one season on the old pump (Hayward 1 hp I believe) and a month or so on the new one (Harris 1.5 hp) so I have not seen a utility bill. However, didn't have a good test kit, had an algae bloom and when I replaced the filter valve I didn't also replace the short piece of PVC that connected it to the internal piping so I had the pump going 24/7 for 10 days. Once that got fixed, pool cleared up quickly.

Filter PSI went up 3-5 psi between the old 1 hp and new 1.5 hp.

I was recently concerned about the flow difference between the 1 hp and 1.5 hp but the Harris manual says that with 1.5" plumbing the max flow is 45 GPM. I'd prefer this to be lower but only way to do that would be to put in some flow restrictions. Would have been nice if we were left with the same HP pump as what was in use but it means it wasn't something I had to buy...

Please keep me posted for sure.I ended up having the motor replaced on my pump.Was able to replace with a Century 1 hp/2 speed cheaper than buying a whole new pump system again.I did some more reading on the Harris Product and just decided to rebuild what I had.Thank You for the reply and will be interesting to see the result's.Thank You
