Harley's Pool

I purchased the jacuzzi one from in the swim since the Amazon seller had meh reviews and unsure of warranty through them.

That should arrive April 8th. So in the meantime, my pool needs to be slam'd.

Im pretty sure my filter balls are filthy and would need to go pick up liquid chlorine.

Should I throw some sand in the best way filter and slam then once water is clear go ahead and add the swg and new pump?

Could I get it and add a timer somehow? I know the timers can get pricey
This is what i use- i plug the swcg & the pump in to it.
It’s plugged into a gfci of course.

Awesome! I'll check it out and probably get one.

I just removed the filter balls and that was disgusting. Also, everything was blocked/covered in thick pollen. So I doubt much water was making it through.

Added sand and it's running now.
Need to do a chlorine test to figure out my slam.

Filter balls are so gross 🤢 they should be banned.

So I switched it to sand, cleaned the whole filter out and all. It returning a good amount of water into the pool, but then I check on it later and it's back to not a ton of output.

I backwash and then it's good to go again

After a backwash, record your new lower filter pressure. When the pressure rises 25% then you backwash again.
Ahh gotcha. The gauge is bad on my filter..

I can pick one up from Lowe's, but that's $15 and my new filter/pump gets here on Monday.

Do I still buy a gauge for this weekend?

Also, should I wait until my water is clear to add the swg?

I would wait for the new pump system. Just keep any eye on your return flow to gauge when to backwash. I would wait on the SWG for now unless you are doing new plumbing for the new pump which would be a good time to put it in. Maybe I'm mixed up on what you're doing right now since this thread is so long.

Gotcha! Right now I'm currently doing a slam. But I switched out the filter balls for sand on my old filter that came with the pool so I could slam. New pump/filter shows up Monday and I plan to install it and continue to slam.

Up to you. The new one is probably low quality and would benefit from an upgrade, particularly a 30 psi gauge that you don't need to squint at.

Or keep the good one until the junk one dies too.

Or just deal for a few more days and worry about it next time.

I hope this helps. ;)

Wait until the water is clear to *use* the swg. It can be hooked up before, and doing so might even be a welcome distraction while waiting between FC adds / brushing/ backwashing.

Thanks! It definitely helps and I appreciate it.

So if I'm doing a SLAM - around 4pm I added my first chlorine to bring up the FC and I just did a test at 6:30pm and it's still at 18ppm. So just test again in two hours and adjust? But only add if it's below the SLAM amount?

I also added enough cya to bring it to 45, but haven't tested again for it. Should I test cya again or assume it's 45? Just the cya test goes by fast
