Hack My Pool

Also - thinking through this fill water portion of what I have going on...
If I fill at night when we're done playing - I won't be nearly as mad at the green-ish water.
Fill for a couple hours - take out the hose.
Put the bucket back in action while we sleep.
Morning/mid-day should be #Bermuda Blue
Run FC... Run PH... adjust as needed during the day.

Play at night. Refill. Bucket. Wash, rinse, repeat?

I see setting up the contraption getting old really quick. If it's going to be an ongoing battle, I'd hide the bucket behind the pool and run 2 hoses from the bucket and cut 2 returns in at the pool. (One hose in and 2 out should solve the pressure blowing the bucket apart). The bucket feed could be plumbed into the regular return with a 3 way valve to make swapping back and forth easy peasy.

It'd be easy to operate, mostly hidden, and on the ground when you dropped or split the bucket open.

CUT HOLES IN MY POOL?! Have you lost your mind? I can't even responsibly pour chemicals into my pool, let alone cut holes in the darn thing.

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy - so you say....

Let's just never let the bucket fall and the "nuclear football" won't be an issue.

You really have high ambitions of me, if you think I can cut holes in my pool to plumb a filtering issue...

:ROFLMAO:

People add skimmers and/or returns all the time. It's scary at first thought but really no big deal. Search above for 'adding skimmer to intex' or such and you'll see many examples of folks just as worried who did great.

Well I watched you run off and MacGuyver Joe Dirts Waterfall in no time flat, and mostly without our help. And I quote: 👇
Oh I can totally rig up a five-gallon bucket on my ladder and run my "clean" water back through poly-fill! That's an easy project for certain. Getting the tube through the base of the bucket will be my biggest hurdle but nothing a friend of mine and I can't manage!

So yeah. Not only can you can, but you also can do. :)

Are you having to refill the pool every day?
The Joe Dirt Waterfall has a small leak, and I’m losing nearly a gallon every 30 mins. So I’m having to refill when I run that.

Actual water loss - probably not much. And splashing has been a minimum since we’ve only been able to get in for a couple days.

Another solution for your dilemma is to employ a skimmer.
You can put polyfill in a skimmer sock in the skimmer to make it easier to remove.
You could then simply put the fill hose in the skimmer when filling.

Having a skimmer would also allow you to add a little pool grade de or cellulose fiber to your sand filter if needed to help catch iron and other finer particles.

I have to ask, do you have some sort of treatment for your home? A water softener or something?

Oh I have a boatload treatment facility in my garage for the house.

Non consumable water passes through 3 filters before entering my home (toilet, laundry, etc).
Consumable water passes an additional 5 before consumption point (kitchen sink and fridge).

It’s the most obnoxious set up… complete with UV filtration and everything.

If I did the sidebar skimmer - I then run my hose into the “basket” of that before it dumps into the pool? Am I understanding that correctly?

Evening Panel:
FC: 5.5
Ph: 7.2
TA: 210

Seems like TA is slowly decreasing...

I'm going to overshoot my FC to a 10 - so that even if I drop 3 points, I'm at a 7. Pool Math says 23 OZ of 12.5%. (CYA is 60)

PH is in range (will check again in the AM)

Also - has anyone ever had to order the little CYA Squirt Bottle and just the R-0009 by themselves? My numbers already wore off the squirt bottle, and I've burned through half a bottle of 0009. o_O
