Hack My Pool

Careful there with what you wish/ask for, there's a difference. One time I lost a rim and tire when I *assumed* he was taking the steering wheel. It was a TOTALLY different outcome while satisfying the request. :ROFLMAO:
Well that’s not the outcome any of us want when we expect him to take the wheel… if nothing else I genuinely appreciated a good chuckle. I’m at the point if I don’t laugh, I might cry over this Dang money hole in my back yard!!

Good morning friends! The pool is more clear today than it's been this entire time... I'd call it Arnold Palmer gold :ROFLMAO: ! Definitely a step in the right direction. I plan to rig up the "Pillow Bucket" as my son has coined it, this afternoon! Should be Bahama Blue in no time!

Backwash and rinse has been GROSS - I'd almost call it orange juice colored as of this morning. But I feel like that means something is working.
Cleaned out all the loose grass clippings, leaves and bugs
Dumped in a fresh 16 oz (3ppm) 12.5% Chlorine

Ain’t she a beaut Clark?!

Pool pic from 6:00 added. At 1500 gals/hour I’m hoping to see improvement by 9:30/10:00 tonight.

Attempt 1 - too much polyfil. Lid bursted right off. I ended up in the pool chasing polyfil.

Attempt 2 - less polyfil… added a ratchet strap to keep the bucket closed against water pressure.

Attempt 3 - DO NOT MOVE. DONT BLINK. DONT SCRATCH. Bucket fell into the pool, all non-filtered water back in to the pool. Start over.

Attempt 4 - in process. Might need a beer or seven.

Wasn't the polyfil, it is the number and size of the holes. Post a picture of the lid...you might need more and bigger holes...

If you slow the water down, by increasing the holes, the polyfil will catch more.

I'll say this, you are industrious. Certainly in the top 5% of people with brown/green pools WRT gettin' it done! You Go!

Still very yellow/gold this morning but I’m not giving up on the polyfil filter. I haven’t backwashed/rinsed yet - but will do so later. Added my daily dose of 12.5% chlorine this morning. Water test kit should arrive today.

Well now we’re in business! It just rained a little here - 40 mins of steady rain but not a downpour. Rain in my forecast for the rest of the day.

Should I want to get a first test until tomorrow?

Also - I’m gonna do all sorts of research on what this fun kit will do.

CYA needs overhead sun. Especially for newbs. Once your comfortable with it you can compare it inside and train yourself with bright indoor lights and what it's supposed to look like there. I have daylight bulbs in a few places and they work great at night, but barely shine during the day. It was some trial and error. Err. Just wait until the googely eye is laughing at you. It's error and error. :ROFLMAO:

It's literally jam packed with value. Plus, a chunk of the cost was for the various extras. The reagents go on sale for $45 each spring so it's much cheaper going forward.

Forecast tomorrow is 78 and Sunny - so it sounds like tomorrow will be the best day for my first test.

Legitimate question - since I first posted, I have been adding 16 oz 12.5% Chlorine daily (including this morning). Now that my test kit has arrived - should I add that tomorrow as well and then test? Or... test... and then we adjust the chems from there now that we know what we're dealing with?

I am also not immune to the fact that this rain I am having today will throw everything off...

Rain doesn't matter. A 6 inch deluge will only dilute you about 12% and barely be noticeable if it's well mixed.

Run out and get a sample elbow deep when it's not crazy out. Test everything but CYA and post em up. Also test your fill water, it should be pool friendly in IN, but not always.

Okay - I am going to read up on the ABCs of Pool Water Chem. And then hopefully a couple more articles on actual testing. This is my first time using a test kit - I had strips (I know… I know…)

Once I feel more informed about this kit - I’ll grab fill water and pool water!

Just block off everything but one test with scrap paper or such. Gather the supplies needed, in order. You don't even have to know what R-0871 is, just that you have the right bottle. Then go one stupid simple step at a time.

*fill vial to 10ml
*add scoop of powder
*swirl
***** immediately LOVE the smart stir*****
*Add drops of 0871 and count drops
*Each drop is 1/2 FC.

Boom. Stupid easy.

You say "stupid easy" I say...

I'll grab a big cup of pool water, set up shop in my living room, and go step by step and see what happens! I'll report back here as soon as I can!

And if I haven't said it already - y'all are saving my life! Thank you a million times for the guidance, input and humor along the way! I know this testing step is going to lead to more steps - but it's critical for sure!
