Liquid Chlorine
Hi friends! Newbie here and I am on the struggle bus with my pool.

I have a 16x48 Bestway Steel Pro Max. Using a 1500 Gal Flowclear Sand Filter

Water was filled from a well (city water not available where I am). It’s very brown.

Shocked the pool with one of the 1 lb bags after filling and that didn’t do squat. Shocked again after the pump ran 2-3 days, slight change to coloration.

My chems are all over the board.

We had a very hard day of rain - so this morning I poured in 36 oz of 12.5% liquid chlorinator.

How long do I let that “mix” before I begin modifying other chemicals? Should I try to adjust the other levels all at the same time?

Thanks!

Welcome to TFP!!!

First thing to do is get a test kit. Strips are notoriously wrong. Order it today. Link-->Test Kits Compared

Add 3ppm of liquid chlorine per day until you kit arrives. Nothing else.

Post a picture of the pool so we can see condition of the water.

When kit arrives, follow the SLAM process. Link-->SLAM Process

I’m looking at the TF-100 with the SLAM add on - would that be worth it?

With the liquid chlorine - does the % matter? Or should I continue to use the 12.5%?

Thanks for the help!

Get the kit, you need it and will truly be able to avoid algae at all times with it if you follow TFP.

Is that the way it looked right after a fill?

Hah! I can appreciate anything stoooopid easy!

My well is very rusty - so I wasn’t surprised when I filled it that it was dark. This is actually a lot lighter than it was a week ago when I filled it. Photo is how it looked full before shock, and moving to sand filter.

Add the 3ppm of liquid chlorine a day and brush.

We wait.

You might review the polyfill threads in the article I posted. You can get started on that now (filtering with polyfil) if you can get one going.

Post a picture of your filter and filter lines.

Looks like oxidized iron from your well water. This is exactly what my pool looked like when I filled it the first time. Water went in crystal clear then turned to chocolate milk after I added liquid chlorine. The sand filter should do a decent job of clearing it but it will take some time. If you have a skimmer basket; you can put some polyfil (pillow stuffing) in nylon or sock and put it in the basket and rinse it out in a sink once a day or so. This will speed the process. Search for polyfil on the forum, there's several threads about it.

Pics of water this morning and pump/lines

I put in 16 oz of 12.5% - that was my 3ppm equivalent. My pump “says” it has a chemical return but of all the reading and research I’ve done I can’t figure that part out - so I slowly pour it right to the “output/where water comes back into the pool”
