Hi everyone, over the last week I’ve noticed that when my SWCG is running, I get some pretty loud gurgling at my return. It’s not the typical little bubbles that you get with the chlorine gas. It’s louder than that, with larger air bubbles. I was concerned that maybe air was entering plumbing somewhere, but pump basket has no bubbles at all, and when the pump is running without the SWCG there’s no noise at all. No leaks anywhere. What could be causing this? I run my pump on low speed 24/7, SWCG is on 40% for 7 hours. Chlorine production is right on the money.

Mine makes a gurgling noise as well, it just sounds like the air bubbles making their way through the plumbing.

When my filter gets dirty and flow is reduced, the air bubbles become bigger, but everything still works as far as chlorine production goes.

Interesting. My filter pressure isn’t high, but we did get a TON of rain this week, so wouldn’t hurt to backwash and see if that helps. Will give it a shot.

i did turn the pump to high a couple of days ago for a few minutes and it was quiet for several hours when I went back to low, but eventually started gurgling again.

Kelly,

When you have a SWCG, this is pretty normal, and depends a lot on how the plumbing is installed. It is not a sign of anything bad.

Thanks,

Jim R.
Thanks - my Intex cell never did it, but of course it was a lot smaller!

Is your 'hump' down on the cell ?

Yep.

Which pump do you have ? If it's a 2 speed it may not have the flow to fully clear the cell which is why you're hearing the sporadic burping.

Running at 1750 rpm will produce more gurgling type noise.
Running at 3450rpm will usually all but eliminate the gurgling (but increases electrical usage).
Totally normal.

In my inground pool, I run at 1200rpm 20 hours per day - and get a gurgle every now and then. But when the pump ramps up to 2900rpm for it's twice daily 2 hour run (for my IFCS), quite a bit of gurgling occurs for a few minutes while the higher flow pushes any large areas of bubbles out thru the IFCS zones and their associated popups.
